2024 Suicide Assessment, Intervention, and Management

This course is designed to meet the requirements set forth in KRS 210.336 regulation. It will focus on core competencies for clinicians regarding the assessment, referral, treatment, and management of suicide risk, including the knowledge of warnings signs and skills necessary to mitigate risk factors and enhance protective factors. This presentation uses published current research from the NIH, the CDC, the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, and the American Association of Suicidology, to name a few.

After this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe three current research findings about suicide
2. Identify at least four risk factors for suicide based on current research
3. Identify at least four protective factors for suicide based on current research
4. Utilize one or more current assessment tools with individuals who may present at risk for suicide
5. Develop a safety plan with a client who presents some risk for suicide

This self-study course is designed for Social Workers at basic, intermediate, and advanced clinical levels.

Hank Cecil is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Kentucky. He is an active member of the KY Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). He received his Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Kentucky. He holds a Master of Science in Health Informatics (MHI) from Northern Kentucky University, a Master of Science in Information Systems, and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management from Murray State University.
