This course is designed to meet the requirements outlined in the new KRS 210.336 regulation. It will focus on core competencies for clinicians regarding the assessment, referral, treatment, and management of suicide risk, including the knowledge of warnings signs and skills necessary to mitigate risk factors and enhance protective factors. This presentation uses published current research from the NIH, the CDC, the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, and the American Association of Suicidology, to name a few.
After this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe three current research findings about suicide
- Identify at least four risk factors for suicide based on current research
- Identify at least four protective factors for suicide based on current research
- Utilize one or more current assessment tools with individuals who may present at risk for suicide
- Develop a safety plan with a client who presents some risk for suicide
This course is designed for Social Workers at basic, intermediate, and advanced clinical levels.
The course is delivered as an interactive webinar to enable participants to see, hear, and speak with the presenter and others. Participants must have a computer (desktop, laptop, or tablet) with a reliable internet connection and enable the microphone and camera to participate. Smartphones may be used; however, the small display may limit the participant’s view of the materials presented on the screen.
